    This is so interesting. i appreciate the photos which make it more real for me. I see what you mean by "the berm" and how there might be a polar bear on the other side of it. You are meeting some interesting people with amazing knowledge and stories. Thanks for sharing them.

      I didn't think that I was going to be able to upload photos here as I wasn't able to attach more than one to an email, but with some patience, was able too. I think it took about 1/2 hour for these five to upload. It is so beautiful here, I thought it would be good to give it a try = ) Glad you're enjoying them, Cathy...am enjoying seeing what you post on FB.

Thoughts pass through my mind often of things I might write to the blog if time allowed. I had thought that finishing my BSN would create space for a more balanced life, but instead, it pulled me into a higher degree of responsibility at the clinic spending most of perceived free time working many evenings and weekends. In October when the PHN Coordinator position became vacant, I was asked to apply but declined, thinking that it was beyond my abilities and a position that I definitely didn’t want to fill. I was reluctant, but agreed to fill in as the Acting Coordinator, thinking that it would be a relatively short assignment. Four very rewarding and life-changing months later, we’ve filled the position. Time seems to be opening up again.  We’ve also filled one of the two open nursing positions and Bertrand is back from four months of paternity leave. MORE OF CHRISTMAS AND THE AHLOOK GAMES

Christmas here in Barrow was wonderful in every way.   Favorite things, of course, included talking with my family in Arizona, Washington, Pennsylvania and California and friends in Washington, hearing about their events leading up to Christmas as well as plans for the day and sharing mine.   My little granddaughters are growing by the minute.   Little Jordan’s voice is so clear and my heart melts listening to her talk about the many subjects on her mind.   She usually ends our wonderful and funny conversations with, “I’m sorry, Oma, but I have to go now, OK?”   Her little sister, Keira, isn’t far behind in conversational skills, I’m sure.   I long to see my children and grandchildren again and am continually grateful for their blessings to be working so far away, “up in that cold place” as Jordan says.   Among other things that made Christmas joyful here was attending a church service with live music and carols.   Live non-Native music is ...

GOOD MORNING ON THE EVE OF A NEW YEAR

Glenn and Anne's hut at NARL Ah...I haven't written for some time now but somehow it feels right this morning.  I'm sitting at my pine desk after a wonderful night's rest in my own bed.  It’s wonderful to have taken this for granted in the past but to find renewed joy in it now. Contrasts and change seem to heighten a sense of gratitude for me, pushing me into a pleasant and welcome state of mind.  I just recently returned to my apartment after enjoying eleven days of  house/cat sitting out at one of the huts at NARL, the old Navy Arctic Research Lab.  Big Boy, Anne and Glenn’s smokey-gray, long-haired, affectionate feline was in need of companionship and feeding as well as were the two fish in the large murky tank and the multiple, active, chubby worms in the indoor compost bin.
